The Others Do you like scary movies? Then The Others is a movie for you. Nicole Kidman stars and she completely takes over the scenes when she is present. The film is set in 1945 in Jersey, England. Grace (Nicole) lives with her two children Anne and Nicholas in a mansion while her husband is off in the war. Her caretakers have left without a trace and she has advertised for new ones who arrive in the form of the elderly Bertha Mills and Edmund Tuttle along with a young mute woman Lydia. After they arrive things start getting creepy as hell. Watch in a dark room with proper sound. It will kick your ass. |

The Fast And The Furious The “new action hero” Vin Diesel stars in this much talked about movie which, sadly, there’s not much to say about really. There are a few good car chase scenes but not much else of any interest to make anyone want to see this movie more than once. |

Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones My expectations for this flick were of course huge. After all this is fucking Star Wars. Episode 2. Attack Of The Clones. Not something to be joking around with! The expectations were not satisfied. First of all I thought some of the effects were outright bad but others such as those in the battle scene were outstanding. A movie in 2002 from someone like George Lucas should not have crappy effects. He bloody well owns an effects company for Christ sakes. It’s bad enough that the story line is simple, the acting was nothing special and the dialogue worse. There was way too much emphasizing on beautiful digital landscapes which were simply too beautiful to be believable and I was not impressed with how Anakin was portrayed as a sulky teenager instead of someone who was turning to the dark side. This is the most important part of the storyline and it gets fucked up. On top of that can you get used to Samuel L. Jackson. in the role of a Jedi? I can’t. One of the good points about the movie is that you see much less of Jar Jar Binks. Not less enough though. Uhm.. the audio side was good too (of course) and the action scenes were quite alright as well. George, you are too occupied with drowning every scene in effects that you forget there’s a story to tell. |

Spider-Man It was alright. We watched it at the cinema and that undoubtably boosted the experience in a positive way. Spider-Man made me wish the comic books I read as a kid were movies. The action is well balanced in between the dialogue. Peter Parker’s (played by Tobey Maguire) desire to get a firm hold of next door neighbour Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) is really the plot of the movie. As the story progresses Peter, Mary and bad guy Norman Osborn (The Green Goblin, Willem Dafoe) get entangled in Norman’s web rimshot of power and conspiracy to rule the world. It’s all good fun and it delivers. |

Vanilla Sky What a great fucking movie! Tom Cruise stars alongside Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz in this whirlwind of a movie. You get towed around from scene to scene never knowing what to expect. I won’t reveal the plot at all since this would take away from the experience of seeing the movie. This movie is all about building more and more suspense. Just go watch it! |

The 51st State A movie with Samuel L. Jackson. is rarely bad. This is not the case with The 51st State either yet it’s a bit of a stinker. Samuel stars as Elmo McElroy. Elmo has invented a new drug which, according to him, beats everything before it. Naturally he wants to sell the formula to the bad guys. The price? 20 million dollars. This does not go down quietly. Especially not if you’re trying to do it in England. The 51st State has got both humor, action and romance. I think. It’s pretty much a blur to me what this movie was about. It seemed to want to much but ended up with too little. Go watch Pulp Fiction instead. |

Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone For someone who haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books this movie was quite boring. It’s two and a half hours long. The first hour or so there’s absolutely nothing that tells us what the plot of this movie is. All we see is Potter’s career as a wizard taking off. It might have been faithfull to the book in that respect but it does nothing for the cinematic audience. With all the hype surrounding this movie back in November of 2001 I expected a fucking roller coaster ride but all I got was a ride in a broken ferris wheel. Asleep. At night when the tivoli was closed. In other words this movie just never took off. It’s predictable from A to Z. Everything has been done before. On top of that Daniel Radcliffe who plays Harry Potter is blessed with crap acting skills. I must say I liked Chris Columbus previous movie Bicentennial Man which is also based on a book (short story to be precise) a lot more (10/10). If you have exhausted your possibilites of other movies and are tired of watching crickets in the sun it’s probably not that bad but you have been warned. There are better things to do for two and a half hours. |

Don't Say A Word Good old Michael Douglas stars in this typical ransom-kidnap thriller “Don’t Say a Word” based on the book of the same name. His character, Dr. Nathan Conrad, is working as a successful psychiatrist living with a successful wife who happens to have broken her leg and must stay in bed. They have a successfully smart wonderkid and they all smile. If the movie would just stop there everyone could go home and all would be good. Well damn. Their doorchain wasn’t very successful and Nathan is suddenly trapped in a race against time (he’s got till 5 o’clock to be precise). His daughter has been kidnapped by a maniac and his comrades. The maniac aka Patrick Koster is portrayed by Sean Bean whom you might recognize from his role as Boromir in Lord Of The Rings – The Fellowship Of The Ring. There is nothing new or any surprising elements about the plot but the suspense is good mainly due to some fancy camera work. It all revolves around Elisabeth Maddox-Burrows played (very well I might say – the subway scene is awesome) by Brittany Murphy. Patrick wants a number from Elisabeth’s mentally disturbed mind and will gladly kill to get it. The number will lead him to a precious jewel. However, since Elisabeth suffers from post traumatic stress and what have you the only way to get the number is through a psychiatrist. Nathan. Don’t Say A Word will keep you in the seat for the duration of the movie and the rainy dark atmosphere is perfect. There is never a dull moment. |
