Burning Man 2006

Burning Man 2006 is currently taking place. A gathering of thousands of art interested folks coming together primarily for the sake of… art. This year the festival is expected to draw around 38000 people to the sweltering heat of Nevada’s Black Rock desert.

Hundreds of art groups and loose collaborations attend. One of them is The Tribe. They’re trying to organize people into building a record breaking 2 mile Chinese dragon. The current record was set appropriately enough in China at the Great Wall with a 1.86 mile long dragon in the year 2000.

Space Virgin is another trippy collective.

Dedicated to bringing the magic of Burning Man to a wider audience, TV Free invites the participants themselves to help create the media that will be broadcast

The Museum of Modern Betas

With all the beta (and some gamma…) labeled sites these days someone just had to organize the pile into a nice little site. The Museum of Modern Betas does exactly this. Four sites added today and 144 sites in total.

Personally I mainly use, in some way or some form, Flickr, GMail, Google Maps, Google Groups and del.icio.us.

I think possibly my new favourite beta site might be The Web 2.0 Bullshit Generator. It’s certainly useful.

Ben Thatcher and other soccer tidbits

Ben Thatcher, Manchester City player, must be one of the worst bastards in soccer. The referee of the match between City and Portsmouth Dermot Gallagher failed in all his wisdom to send Thatcher off after nearly killing Pedro Mendes with a forearm blow to the head.

According to the Wikipedia article on the asshole Ben Thatcher it’s not the first time he tried to kill someone on the pitch.

Roy Keane is a bastard as well:

My Blue Period

Time for a new design and general enhancements all around. I’m still working on small things here and there.

Back from reboot8

Just back from reboot8. It wasn’t just hype, this really is a great conference. Very inspiring talks and conversations (no social software pun intended). I’ll definately be there next year.

Some pictures are at 23hq and Flickr.

The award for Most Funny Talk is a split and goes to Juri Engeström (his site here) primarily for including a snippet of “Spaceballs”: and Jeremy Keith for his praise of the hyperlink.

Alice in Chains

We’re going to see Alice in Chains in Vega as well. Should be a blast even without Layne.

AllOrNone.org 2.0

I’ve spent the last month and a half or so revamping AllOrNone.org into something better. It got a brand new design and is now based on Ruby on Rails.
